Newton-by-Castle Acre and Weasenham both in Norfolk, and Lakenheath Suffolk.....

Newton-by-Castle Acre Saxon church ......

The opening into the chancel is the original Saxon-Norman archway....

fragments of 14th or 15th century wall paintings....

15th century font...

... how kind...

Weasenham St Peter ... lovely view from the church yard across farmer's fields ...

In 1870 the church was transformed from a simple building to what we see today.  There is a reference dated 1309 that there was a chapel adjacent to St Peter's church dedicated to St Paul.  In 1602 a survey was made of 'Decayed Churches' in which St Peter's was said to be "exceedinglie decaied by the Negligence of the Proprietane of the rectorie there".. shame on them!

panels of pre-reformation glass...

The font is somewhat earlier than the inscribed 1607.....

sadly the roof lead was stolen last year from this church, and £70,000 is needed to replace it.  I wonder why another material can't be used, one which low-life lead stealers aren't interested in.

Lakenheath.....

Above information sourced from the church booklets I purchased, but there is some helpful information on the Norfolk Churches website if anybody is interested in finding out more.
